Or did it? How did you feel about going home early? From a practical standpoint, the traffic was unspeakable, and I'm told it improved markedly later in the evening. There were all sorts of rumors that the LIE was going to be closed at 3 PM, and 90 million people all decided to go home at the same time.
But how did you feel about missing the 80-minute session slated for that afternoon? Disregarding the traffic issue, would you have liked to go? Or would you have preferred the entire Russian Army to march across your tongue in their stocking feet?
Being in a multi-session school, we aren't privy to the workings of the whole Monday-Tuesday thing. But I hear a lot of stories and most of them aren't getting me excited to participate. I know some schools have done SBOs to have 40 minutes of daily whatever, and teachers in those schools tell me they fantasize about slitting their throats on a fairly regular basis.
So I'd like to ask those of you going through those programs to let us know how it's working for you. What do you do on Mondays? Are your teacher teams ready to change the world, and if so, is it for the better? Is your PD any better than what it was before? Are people regularly jumping up, shouting "Eureka," and discovering the secrets that revolutionize teacher practice?
And what about Tuesdays? How's that parental outreach going? Is it helping you, or does your supervisor simply chain you to a desk with an old phonebook? And what is Other Professional Work? Are you writing lesson plans? Doing bulletin boards? Fixing the boiler?
Inquiring minds want to know.
